Margareth Wallée (advisor)

Margareth completed her study in Health Sciences in 1989 at Hogeschool Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Afterwards she worked a couple of years in the business world. She was a social worker from 1992 to 1997 in the field of education and social integration of the Antilleans, Arubans and Hispanics living in Rotterdam. Being one of the first cultural scouts in the Netherlands, she helped several cultural initiatives in Rotterdam from 1999 trough 2006. This was possible by means of her intermediation to connect them to professional organizations or subsidies. She completed her study in Cultural Anthropology in 2004 at the University of Amsterdam. In addition, she helped in the planning of several exhibitions at museums in Rotterdam and conducted research about some aspects of the urban life of the inhabitants. She emigrated to Curacao in 2007 and she worked at among others the National Museum of Anthropology and Archeology. Margareth combines her responsibilities for Het Startbureau with her job as a hospitality teacher at Scholengemeenschap Otrabanda, a freelance investigator and an aerobics instructor.

Marieke van der Plas (adviser)

In 2000 Marieke graduated in Social Science, in the branch of Youth Studies and Youth Welfare, at Leiden University. From 2000 until 2007 she has worked as a project adviser at the department of Youth a of 'Fonds 1818' in The Hague . During this period she worked as a researcher at Leiden University on a detach basis for seven months. In 2002/2003 she worked in Trinidad & Tobago and Surinam for six months.

She followed the postacademic course Philanthropy at the Free University of Amsterdam and several courses of Project Management.

She combines her tasks for Het Startbureau with her daily job as the advisor in Educational Innovation at SenterNovem in The Hague.

Robert Martis (administrative assistant)

Robert has been functional at Het Startbureau for two years already. Besides his job as the administrative assistant he is involved with the Young Professionals Program. In this regard was he the project leader for the voluntary work program of HDM in 2007 and 2008. He is currently following a training to become a coach for youngsters.

Marian Benschop (communication)
Marian is in charge of the layout/ graphic design of every printable document for Het Startbureau. She designed the logo, brochures, business cards, letterhead and so forth.

Moreover she is responsible for the design and maintenance of the website.

Nathalie Cannegieter (general assistant)

Nathalie completed her major in Management Business & Communication at the University of the Netherlands Antilles in Curacao. Currently she is pursuing her Master in International Business at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. She was always socially active besides her studies, especially in the student associations within her university. She is functioning as a Junior Consultant at Het Startbureau since 2007.

Peter Meijer (Chairman Startbureau Curaçao)

Peter worked at various municipal water authorities after his academic study. He left this field of work as a chief of inspection in 1998. In the same year he was appointed alderman of the town of Ermelo. His portfolio consisted of social-cultural work, social services, social affairs, healthcare, employment assistance, education, mass sport, projects for the neighborhoods, social support act and development. As a special order of the Board he has to ensure that by 2015 everyone in Ermelo can live, work and recreate, despite any disability. In 1999, Peter was appointed vice-chairman of the Social Work Facility of the Inclusief Group with one thousand employees. Since 2006 he has chaired the Antillean foundation Elisabeth. This foundation aims to support and guide less fortunate people, both in the Netherlands and the West Indies. In 2007, he was appointed vice-president of the foundation Koninkrijkssamenwerking (Kingdom Cooperation). In addition, Peter is part of the Antillean Platform for the Association of Dutch States (VNG). Peter is the chairman of the foundation Awa Nobo since 2004.


Daniël van Egmond (Treasurer Startbureau Curaçao en the Netherlands)

Daniël worked as a sales manager from 1997 through 1999 at Carlson Wagonlit Travel which is an international business travel agency in The Hague. He worked as a manager at an outdoor camping in Belgium between 1999 and 2001. Since 2001 is Daniël an advisor and relationship manager for small- and medium sized companies at ING Bank. He is greatly involved with activities for the youth as well as board functions within some business associations. In addition to his job at ING Bank, he is doing an academic study in Management and Organization.

Nathaly Mercera (president Startbureau the Netherlands)

Nathaly studied Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. Her interest in other cultures induced her to live and work in several European countries, for instance Brussels, Paris and Lissabon. She has been active with the participation of Antilleans living in the Netherlands since the beginning of the 90's. In this regard she held several board functions. She has been working as a policy advisor since 2003 at the bureau for emancipation ‘Importante” in The Hague. She is responsible for the social and managerial participation of women. In addition, she is the president and presenter of several conferences and symposia regarding participation, integration and emancipation.

Mirjam Vooijs (secretary Startbureau the Netherlands)

Mirjam is currently doing her post graduate study as a Physician Assistant and works at the neurology department at the Diaconessenhuis in Leiden, the Netherlands. She expects to get her diploma in February 2009. She worked between 2001 and 2006 at the same department as a team leader and in 2003 she got her diploma in Management of Healthcare Sciences. Other studies she finished include Nursery and Leisure management. In addition, she acted as a volunteer for 11 years at the center for the youth, the Schuit.
